Beer jelly

Use your favourite beer for this recipe: if you use pilsner, the jelly will be on the savoury side, with any dark beer it will be naturally more sweet. Of course, alcohol-free beers will also work. Beer jelly tastes good topped with a non-sweet custard to serve.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Take a little of the beer to soak the powdered gelatin in a small saucepan. In another saucepan, bring beer, sugar and lemon juice to the boil, remove from the heat. Dissolve the soaked gelatin and add to the hot beer/sugar/lemon mixture. Pour into beer glasses but only fill them three quarter (if liked, you can top the beer jelly with custard to serve). Cover glasses with clingfilm and place into fridge for the jelly to set, at least several hours (or overnight).
