Historical version of cheesecake
Apparently, this (slightly modernised) cheesecake recipe is a cheesecake version which the Romans prepared (‘savillum’).
Ingredients
- 50 g plain flour
- 50 g ground hazelnuts (or almonds)
- 500 g mascarpone (or a mixture of mascarpone and quark)
- 150 g runny honey
- 1 egg
- optional: if liked, pre-soak a handful of raisins in brandy, a day ahead, and add soaked raisins before baking;
- optional: warmed runny honey to serve
Method
- In a bowl mix well flour, ground nuts or almonds, mascarpone (and quark, if used), honey, egg and soaked raisins (if used). Set aside, covered, for several hours or overnight. Preheat oven to 160 °C. Grease flat ovenproof dish, add cheesecake mixture and bake for 50-60 minutes. If liked, drizzle with warm honey to serve (will be very sweet).
